Our impact

ETI seeks to contribute to scaling quality teacher professional development (TPD), particularly in terms of the range of adaptations and innovations that work in different Global South contexts, and how to deliver them at scale.

ETI envisions impacting over three million teachers and at least 50 million students.

GESI approach

ETI aims to foster a supportive, equitable, and inclusive culture throughout all program activities, advancing best practices in GESI. ETI is committed to ensuring fairness in decision-making, empowering diverse research communities to achieve their full potential. A GESI lens will be integrated into all ETI activities, involving a continuous examination of power imbalances within the Program Team, in relationships with research teams, other project teams, and stakeholders, as well as in the fields where knowledge claims are made. This critical reflection will focus on identifying barriers to equal and meaningful participation for everyone involved. Specific actions will be designed and implemented to remove these barriers.

Research guidance, including protocols, systems, and practices, will prioritize inclusivity, valuing diverse forms of knowledge and perspectives. Data analysis protocols will emphasize disaggregation by gender, disability, age, and other relevant characteristics, aligning with the program’s focus on at-scale TPD. ETI researchers receive targeted GESI support through webinars, mentoring, and access to theoretical and practical tools to enhance their understanding of GESI dimensions within their projects. This encourages them to apply a GESI lens, aiming for their work to be at least “gender responsive,” with the ultimate goal of becoming GESI transformative, in alignment with global standards and best practices.

Diagnosis of areas for development related to GESI will inform GESI-focused capacity strengthening activities for program participants and stakeholders. In knowledge mobilization and program convenings, the selection of attendees will aim to represent a broad spectrum of perspectives and experiences. Special attention will be given to factors such as language, location, and timing to reduce barriers to access and ensure meaningful participation. Knowledge outputs will be made available in multiple formats and languages, with careful consideration of wording to avoid exclusionary or diminishing language. Senior team members will oversee quality assurance from a GESI perspective for all outputs.
