Overview

This document presents a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Self-Assessment Framework—a practical tool for integrating GESI considerations into all stages of research on teacher professional development (TPD) systems. The framework is designed to support efforts to improve equity, quality, and efficiency in large-scale TPD systems, particularly in the Global South. It is also relevant to the broader education research community. Developed collaboratively by researchers from Argentina, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Zambia—participants in the Empowering Teachers Initiative: Teacher Professional Development at Scale (ETI)—the framework is grounded in their empirical experiences across diverse contexts in the Global South.
